Homemade products I use....more to come!

Those who till their own land have food
in plenty,
but those who engage in idle pursuits
lack sense. Proverbs 12:11

Homemade cleaners: These are some of the products I make and use.

laundry detergent, (safe for “He” and front loading machines):

The ingredients you will need are:
Borax 3Lbs
Baking soda 3lbs
Baking Soda Super wash 4lbs**
Oxo Clean 3lbs
2 Bars of Zote*, Fels Naphtha or Castile soap bars

Grate the Fels Naptha, Zote  or Castile soap finely, (I do use my food processor, it cleans up nicely)  add this to the rest of the ingredients. Mix it really well and store it in a covered  container. This detergent has lasted months….I save a lot of money.  You can add scent beads of some kind (or try to find unscented products and make it with those). I have not made this with a scent or scent free. This makes a lot so make ½ of this.... to give it a try.

*The Dollar store and Walmart both carry Zote soap.

** This is not the same as Baking Soda

Use 1-2 tablespoons per load (along with the Homemade DIY fabric softener).

Here is another version: (It makes a smaller amount)

Recipe:
3 cups Borax
3 cups Washing Soda
1 bar Zote soap (14ish oz.) or equivalent Fels Naptha or Ivory
1 containers of “generic’ or other store brand  Oxi-Clean type cleaner.
Follow the same directions as above.

 DIY Fabric Softener:

6 cups of Warm water
3 cups of white Vinegar
2 cups of Hair Conditioner, (cheapest kind you can find).
I tablespoon of Borax.
Mix this together and pour it into the container you want to use…that’s it!
You can add essential oils if you wish.
I use ¼ of a cup J

All Purpose Cleaner

1 extra-large grapefruit
1 Quart canning jar
2 cups of white vinegar
Essential oil- whatever you like, Lavender is what I like.
One spray bottle

Peel the grapefruit, pith and peeling, (no fruit) is used.  Place peeling in canning jar and cover with white vinegar. That is it!  You need to let it sit in a cool dark place for a week or so. Strain and transfer to the spray bottle, add your essential oil at this time.

Deodorizer
This works great on carpets. Justin our son uses it in his sneakers from time to time.
2 cups baking soda
½ cup cornstarch
½ cup corn meal
1 Tablespoon whole cloves
1 Tablespoon of Borax

Add all the ingredients to a blender. Pulse on low or until you have an even consistency.
Pour it into a large shaker and it is ready to use.

When you sprinkle this onto a carpet let it sit a couple of hours or overnight and then vacuum.

A "vintage train" ride. Enjoy the sounds of long ago, ( and yes, I did get soot on me). This is a coal powered steam train.
